Shillong, July 12: National People’s Party (NPP) member from Nongkrem and candidate for election to the chief executive member (CEM) post, H.S. Shylla exuded confidence that the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) will win the election, and assured that the new Executive Committee to be led by the alliance would take up the alleged misappropriation of Rs 28 crore funds in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Earlier, members of the KHADC have alleged that former CEM, P.N. Syiem was responsible for the misappropriation of the Council’s money.
Shylla told reporters on Thursday said the KHDA supported the demand of PDF member from Nongskhen, Grace Mary Kharpuri for a CBI inquiry into the matter.
“When we (KHDA) get the chance to lead the new executive committee, we will definitely take up this matter seriously,†Shylla said, adding that Kharpuri’s demand is directly against Syiem.
Kharpuri has filed her nominations for the election to the CEM post, after getting the support of some PDF members and other members who are part of another coalition, the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA).
The election to the CEM post is necessitated after Syiem who is the PDF leader, resigned from the post on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Kharpuri had said that if she is to be elected as CEM of the Council, she would favour the demand for a CBI inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of Rs 28 crore out of Rs 32 crore sanctioned by the Centre for the KHADC last year.
Syiem was alleged to have diverted the Rs 28 crore on Council’s assets instead of sanctioning the same for the development of the different MDC constituencies.
