Six Nigerian nationals, Indian woman remanded to six days police custody

Shillong, Sept 15: Six Nigerian nationals and an Indian woman, who were recently arrested for duping a person from the state of Rs 21 lakh, have been remanded to six days police custody by a lower court here on Friday.

The accused were produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class after they were arrested in Delhi on September 12.

“The prayer of the I/O is considered and allowed for six days police custody,” Kharshiing said in her order.

She however, warned that the accused “should not be tortured” and that their “health and safety” be complied as per the Supreme Court’s guidelines.

The victim was cheated of Rs 21 lakhs by a facebook friend supposedly to have come to India to meet the complainant and that he had been detained at Delhi Airport by Custom officials for carrying huge cash (dollars) and lots of expensive gifts.

The complainant was asked to pay money to the Custom officials for the release of the facebook friend and also the cash and gifts which he was carrying for the complainant.

Feeling pity for the facebook friend, the complainant paid money in several instalments and by the time the complainant realized, the culprit had already duped Rs 21 lakh.

The case was registered at Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS), CID Headquarters Shillong under section 420 IPC read with section 660 of Information Technology Act.
