Nongpoh, Jan 20: Amid limited employment opportunities, skill-based training is increasingly being seen as a key avenue for youth to secure sustainable livelihoods. In line with this objective, the Meghalaya government continues to promote vocational training initiatives to empower young men and women across the state.
Under the Skills Meghalaya programme, implemented through the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS), various training initiatives are being carried out in collaboration with partner institutions. In Ri Bhoi district, the El Elyon Institute, Nongpoh, has been conducting skill development programmes with government support to enhance employability and promote self-reliance among youth.
The institute recently completed a 78-day free tailoring training programme, providing practical skills to participants to enable them to seek employment or pursue self-employment opportunities.
To mark the completion of the programme, a Certification Ceremony was held on January 20, 2026, at Nongpoh. The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi district, Balakyntiew Rani, SDO of MSSDS, Ri Bhoi, Saibon Khriam, and Managing Director of El Elyon Institute, Sainkupar Syngkli, along with other officials and stakeholders.
More than 60 trainees from Nongpoh and Umsning received certificates upon successful completion of the training. In recognition of excellence, special awards were presented to 10 trainees who demonstrated outstanding performance during the programme.
The initiative is expected to create new employment opportunities, encourage entrepreneurship, and contribute to skill-based economic development in Ri Bhoi district.
