South Tura MLA suggests to avoid using bottled water

Shillong, Mar 22: NPP legislator Agatha K Sangma has suggested to avoid using bottled water and urged the Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy to instead provide water filters to members of the House.

Supporting the motion moved by Independent legislator from Mawphlang SK Sunn on water supply position in the state capital and district headquarters, Agatha pointed out the effect of using bottled water on the environment and human health.

She further stressed the need for the government to invest on rain water harvesting while keeping in mind that the state receives the heaviest rainfall. She said states like Mizoram have done quite well in harvesting rain water.

The legislator from South Tura also urged the government to take the issue of ensuring water supply as top priority as she pointed out that non-availability of water is also affecting women, who have to wait in long queues to get a bucket of water.
