Shillong, Dec 7: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker AT Mondal on Thursday released a book – “PR Kyndiah: The early years” written by Assembly’s Commissioner & Secretary Andrew Simons as a mark of tribute to the late political leader of the state.
In his speech, Mondal said that the book will give not only the younger generation but future legislators of the state an opportunity to know about (L) Kyndiah, his struggles and how he established himself as a successful politician.
“This man with great personality won three parliamentary elections and had never lost any elections which only showed his dedication and his ideas to transfer everything into something better,” he said.
He further said that lots of rulings were delivered during his times which ultimately became the guidelines for various Speakers who took over after him.
Earlier, the book titled ‘PR Kyndiah: As I know Him’ was also written by Simons.
Born on May 7, 1928, Kyndiah, a Hill State Movement leader, was a prominent figure in Meghalaya politics. From 1970 to 1993, he was a member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. From 1975 to 1988, Kyndiah served as cabinet minister in the State, as Leader of Opposition, Acting Chief Minister and Speaker of the Assembly.
Kyndiah had also served as Governor of Mizoram from 1993 to 1998 and subsequently he was elected to the Lok Sabha three times (1998, 1999 and 2004) from Shillong Parliamentary seat.
