Shillong, August 28 – Nangkiew Irat consolidated their position at the top of the Shillong Premier League 2025 standings with a resounding 5-1 victory over Sawmer at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Thursday.
A brace each from Himanshu Patil (15’, 42’) and Ronaldkydon L Nonglait (46’, 50’), along with a strike from substitute Banshanlang Nongdhar (48’), secured the three points for Nangkiew Irat. Bisharlang Mawthoh (18’) netted Sawmer’s only goal.
The result marked Nangkiew Irat’s third successive win, giving them nine points and keeping them firmly in first place. Sawmer, on the other hand, slipped from sixth to seventh with three points, their goal difference worsening to -6, behind Malki’s -4.
The game began cautiously, but Nangkiew Irat looked the sharper side. Himanshu opened the scoring in the 15th minute after latching onto a through ball and beating Sawmer goalkeeper Pyrshangbanbha Dkhar. Sawmer equalised shortly after through Bisharlang, who converted from close range following Rijied Sun’s effort on the wing.
However, Himanshu restored the lead before half time with a header from an Edyvenson Dhar cross. The second half then saw Nangkiew Irat take complete control, scoring three times in five blistering minutes. Himanshu provided assists for Ronaldkydon’s quickfire double, while Banshanlang found the net just minutes after coming on as a substitute.
From there, Nangkiew Irat managed the match with composure, dominating possession and denying Sawmer any clear chances. The latter were limited to long-range attempts that failed to trouble goalkeeper Surjay Kumar Pariyar.
The Shillong Premier League continues tomorrow with a crucial clash between Langsning and Mawlai, currently placed third and fourth, respectively.
