Shillong | July 28, 2025 St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School successfully defended their Boys’ Team Champions title at the 31st Inter-School Karate Tournament, which concluded on Saturday. In the Girls’ Team Champions category, Auxilium Girls’ Higher Secondary School claimed top honours this year.
St Anthony’s Lower Primary School and Providence School finished as runners-up in the boys’ and girls’ team categories, respectively.
Organised by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the three-day tournament took place from 24 to 26 July at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall, SAI, NEHU, Shillong.
This year’s edition broke all previous records, with a staggering 748 karatekas from 104 schools across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills participating. Despite the logistical challenges posed by such high participation, AMKA ensured that every student—as young as six years old—was given a platform to compete.
The closing ceremony was graced by Cabinet Minister and State Government Spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included Meghalaya State Olympic Association General Secretary Finely L Pariat and Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd Chief Accounts Officer Aiborlang Shabong. The dignitaries presented team awards and individual honours for outstanding performances in the junior and senior categories.
Minister Paul Lyngdoh expressed admiration for the talent on display in the final bouts and stated,
“I am confident that these young karatekas will one day win medals for Meghalaya—and even India—on national and international platforms.”
