Shillong, Oct 31, 2025: St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Rangblang — one of the most established and respected educational institutions in South West Khasi Hills District — brought its year-long Golden Jubilee Celebration to a vibrant conclusion today, marking 50 years of dedicated service in shaping young minds and uplifting the community.
The institution, which traces its origins back to 1927 as an LP School, has grown through decades of commitment to education. It was upgraded to a Middle English School in 1960 and later elevated to a Secondary School in 1975 under the visionary leadership of Rev. Fr. George Vanni (of blessed memory), then Parish Priest of Pyndengrei Parish, Nongstoin. Fr. Vanni, deeply moved by the challenges faced by underprivileged children, spearheaded the school’s expansion — a mission that has blossomed into five decades of academic excellence.

The grand finale of the Golden Jubilee festivities was graced by Methodius Dkhar, Minister in charge of Labour, Employment & Skill Development and Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, as the Chief Guest. Gabriel Wahlang, MLA of Nongstoin Constituency, attended as the Guest of Honour. Also present were Renikton L. Tongkhar, MLA of Mawkyrwat, Carness Sohshang, former MDC, Fr. Edmund Lakra, Principal of the school, and Fr. John Zosiama, Salesian Provincial of the Shillong Province, along with sisters, teachers, alumni, students, and community members.
The celebration was marked by a series of spectacular performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. Colourful mass drills, traditional dances, songs, and cultural presentations filled the day with energy and enthusiasm, reflecting the spirit of unity and pride that defines St. Mary’s Rangblang.
As the Golden Jubilee came to a close, the event stood as a testament to the school’s journey of progress, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to education — a legacy that continues to inspire generations in the South West Khasi Hills and beyond.
