Shillong, Mar 12: The state Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Residents, Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Law Minister James K Sangma said that the amendment bill will accordingly be placed in the budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly for consideration.
He said the amendment bill seeks to enhance security and ensure safety and security of citizens by preventing anti-social elements from getting shelter in the state which might be detrimental to peace and tranquility to maintain public order and peace.
It also suggest the need to verify and regulate the tenants residing in rented houses in the state, establishment of district task forces (DTFs), and facilitation centres to facilitate effective enforcement of various laws for safety and security of citizens.
