The Sohïong water supply scheme would benefit around 2,000 households in 20 villages.
He said the decision taken in as far as Baghmara, which is the district headquarter of South Garo Hills, is concerned was after seeing the hardship faced by the people due to water scarcity.
Meanwhile, Malngiang informed the Jowai water supply scheme has been completed. However, the department is still waiting for the power department to provide electricity connection for starting the supply of water to the beneficiaries, he added.
