Shillong, Nov 16: The State government will take a decision to denotify the notification of 1989 relating to the Meghalaya Building Byelaws after receiving the building byelaws from all the three autonomous district councils.

The 1989 notification pertaining to the implementation of Meghalaya Building Byelaws by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is being operated in scheduled areas.

There has been strong opposition against the implementation of the building byelaws by the MUDA in scheduled areas of the state.

However two autonomous district councils (ADCs) РJai̱tia Hills Autonomous District Council and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council are yet to submit their respective building bye laws to the state government.

So far only the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has submitted its building byelaws.

Urban Affairs Minister, Hamletson Dohling told reporters on Friday that a final decision to withdraw the notification of 1989 would be taken after all the ADCs submit their respective building byelaws.

“We are ready to denotify the notification, but we are still waiting for the two ADCs to submit their building byelaws. We have asked the GHADC and JHADC to speed up the matter at the earliest. “After getting their building byelaws, we will cross examine. If we find everything is fine, we are ready to revoke this notification issued on January 13, 1989,” Dohling said.

The three District Councils were asked to submit their building byelaws within one month. It has been more than a month now, but the GHADC and JHADC have not submitted their bye laws
