Shillong, Mar 26: Information & Public Relations Minister, A.L. Hek on Monday said that the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 has clearly stated that any holiday already announced by the State Government would be applicable to all Central offices in the state.
Hek’s statement came after it was reported that Good Friday would be a working day in Central offices, including BSNL.
Hek had a meeting with Home Minister James K. Sangma on Monday in his chamber and discussed the issue.
According to Hek, the confusion could be because the BSNL corporate office wanted to keep only the accounts and consumers’ section open on that day considering financial year end.
Hek denied any notification issued from the state or Central government that Good Friday will be a working day in Central offices, including BSNL.
He said that a notification of the BSNL corporate office has been also revoked.
“There was no such notification either issued or received by the State government, BSNL or the North Eastern Council, and it was only from the corporate office of the BSNL requesting the accounts and consumer section to be open considering financial year end,†he said.
Hek also said that the BSNL has revised its order, to ensure that Good Friday will not be a working day, even for the accounts and customer service sections.
