Shillong, Oct 26: With the aim of promoting arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talents of school children, the State Level competition of the Kala Utsav initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan was held on Friday at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong
The programme inaugurated by Shri. F. R. Kharkongor, Chief Electoral Officer was organised by the Directorate of School Education and Literacy, State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya R.M.S.A now Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools from all eleven Districts of the State took part in the competition showcasing their talent in music, dance, drama and visual arts.
Speaking on the occasion, Kharkongor said the Kala Utsav is a vital part of learning as it served as a foundation for young people to learn outside the classroom and reconnect with their roots. Encouraging the youth to appreciate the arts, Shri. Kharkongor likened the competition to living root bridges and said that just as the livingroot bridges continue to grow and draw strength from the roots so as the Kala Utsav connects the past to the future and draws strength and inspiration from traditions of the past. Shri. Kharkongor also took the opportunity to urge the youth to take part in the election process.
It may be mentioned that the winners of the State Level competition will represent the State in the National level competition which will be held in New Delhi.
A special dance performance was presented by the students fo the Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre.
