Shillong Mar 21: The Static Surveillance Team (SST) on Thursday seized cash amounting to Rs 3 lakh from Ampati in South West Garo Hills district.
The cash was seized from a vehicle having Assam registration (AS01-AP-7786).
Investigation is on to ascertain whether the seized cash is meant for election purposes.
The person in the vehicle claimed that the money was supposedly meant for paying wages for stone quarry labourers, but no documents could be produced to prove that the money was meant for labourers.
The District Election officials said that Mankachar is close by to Ampati, and a good number of vehicles having Assam registration were plying in the area.
