SHILLONG, MAR 18: Severe weather events, including storms, hail and lightning, have affected more than 48,000 people across Meghalaya since March 13, with one fatality reported, according to a cumulative assessment released on Wednesday.

The Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) said preliminary reports compiled up to March 17 indicate that as many as 745 villages across all districts were impacted by the adverse weather conditions.

The report noted that 13,876 houses were damaged across 30 blocks, highlighting the widespread impact of the storms. In addition to the single fatality, one person sustained injuries.

Authorities also reported damage to 66 infrastructure units, while approximately 0.4 hectares of agricultural land were affected. No incidents of animal deaths or missing persons have been recorded so far.

Officials said assessments are ongoing, and relief measures are being undertaken in affected areas as the state continues to monitor the situation.
