Shillong, Nov 4: Youngster Swastic Chettri narrowly missed out on a maiden first-class century as Meghalaya’s Ranji Trophy 2025–26 Plate Group match against Bihar ended in a draw today in Patna.
With two days washed out due to rain, the chances of a result were slim. Batting first after being put in, Meghalaya posted an impressive 408/7 declared in their only innings. Bihar closed the match at 156/4, leading to shared points.
On Sunday, Meghalaya had resumed at 235/4, with guest professional Ajay Duhan scoring a commanding 129, while Swastic remained unbeaten on 54 at stumps.
Continuing his innings today, the 19-year-old Swastic showed maturity and patience in just his second first-class appearance. He was eventually bowled by Himanshu Singh (3/126) for a well-crafted 94 off 205 balls, including 10 fours and a six.
The innings also featured late fireworks from Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva (35* off 50) and Akash Chaudhary, who smashed an unbeaten 60 off 62 balls, hammering five fours and four sixes in a lively 98-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
For Bihar, opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided entertainment with a blistering 93 off 67 balls (9x4s, 4x6s) before falling LBW to Bijon Dey, who finished with figures of 2/47 from 9 overs. Despite the aggressive start, Bihar ended at 156/4 in just 25 overs when the match concluded.
Meghalaya will next travel to Surat, where they will face Arunachal Pradesh starting 8 November.
