Shillong, Sept 16, 2025: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) has called for a swift and thorough probe after the untimely death of a four-year-old at Nongrah in East Khasi Hills.
The Commission said it immediately reached out to the bereaved family and remained with them throughout the day, offering support and ensuring that required official formalities at NEIGRIHMS — including the autopsy — were carried out while the matter was closely reviewed.
Expressing deep anguish at the loss, particularly given the age and vulnerability of the child, the MSCPCR conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the family and reaffirmed its solidarity in this difficult time.
The Commission also warned the public against circulating videos or images of children in distressing situations on social media, calling such acts “highly insensitive and unethical.” It reminded citizens that sharing such material can breach the Juvenile Justice Act (JJA) and attract strict penal consequences, including imprisonment.
Finally, the MSCPCR has urged the Police and all investigative agencies to expedite the probe, stressing that a prompt, thorough investigation is essential both to secure justice and to provide the grieving family with some measure of closure.
