Gang rape incident: One accused surrenders before West Jaiñtia Hills police

Shillong, Jan 06: An accused who was wanted in connection with a gang rape incident surrendered before the West Jaiñtia Hills police on Monday.
Superintendent of police, Lakador Syiem said that the accused surrendered after sustained efforts of police in conducting raids in all known places. He informed that the family members of the accused have claimed that he is a juvenile.
In view of this, the SP said, “We will ask the court for ossification test to determine his age.”
He said the accused has been produced before the concerned magistrate for further necessary action.
Earlier, six persons including four adults and two juveniles were arrested in the gang rape case.
The incident took place in a remote village in the district on January 1. The minor girl met the group of seven persons after visiting her relatives nearby.
The four accused have been identified as Ribah Phawa (31), Libim Phawa (20), Mehi Dkhar (22) and Kermiki Shylla (18).
