Shillong, August 21: Creativity and enterprise were in the spotlight during the celebration of World Entrepreneur Day in Shillong, where entrepreneurs and skilled individuals from across Meghalaya showcased their talents and livelihood skills.
Among the participants was K. Mawthoh, a farmer and woodcraft artisan from Thadan, Mawkynrew in East Khasi Hills, who displayed his unique creations made from simple wooden logs at the All Saints Cathedral.
Since 2017, Mawthoh has dedicated himself to woodcraft, which he regards not only as a source of livelihood but also as a medium of expression and inspiration. “Every piece I create comes from my heart and mind. It is not only about earning but also about reflecting the gift of talent given by God,” he told reporters.
Driven by his mission to encourage youth to nurture their natural talents, Mawthoh devotes much of his time to teaching others. The State Government has invited him on several occasions to conduct training for young people. He also spoke of his long-term vision of creating statues of great leaders and intellectuals of Meghalaya as a tribute to their contributions to society.
Recognised for his dedication, Mawthoh was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the State Government in 2022. His showcase on this occasion once again underlined how individual talent and perseverance can inspire the youth, enrich the state’s cultural fabric, and preserve its collective memory.
