Teibor Pathaw to decide with supporters which party he should join

Shillong Dec 24: Teibor Pathaw, one of the candidates from Mawlai constituency in the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will take a decision together with his supporters before joining any political party.

Pathaw said that some political parties have approached him and there was already a discussion within the organization that he is leading – Mawlai:2018 Social Service Organization but a collection decision would be taken soon from which party he should contest.

Pathaw came second in the 2018 Assembly elections and polled 7,679 votes. Congress candidate, P.T. Sawkmie who defeated Pathaw by a margin of only 1,574 votes, got 9,253 votes.

“I am very thankful to some of the political parties that have approached me, but we will decide together which party we should join and contest the upcoming elections to the KHADC,” Pathaw said.

Pathaw had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections in, district council elections in 2014, and Assembly polls in 2018 from Mawlai constituency.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, Pathaw who had joined the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) was by the party, which denied him party ticket at the eleventh hour despite assurance from the beginning that he would be given the ticket.

The PDF ticket was given to Sarita Lyngdoh, the wife of former Mawlai MLA, late F.S. Cajee, who came fourth securing 6,336 votes.

Even the PDF had again approached Pathaw requesting him to rejoin the party, but

Pathaw said that he really wanted to serve the people of Mawlai and he did not doubt that the people in the constituency have faith in him to be their representative.

Though the MDC is a small post, Pathaw assured that if elected, he would sincerely work for uplifting the constituency, and open up more opportunities for the youth.

Pathaw has been maintaining a close association with various political parties. Of late, he is also close with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) which had also approached him to be its candidate.

Whether Pathaw join NPP is still a question.
