Shillong , June 19: A high level delegation of the Punjab government arrived in Shillong on Wednesday to meet the chief minister Conrad K Sangma in connection with the Them ïew Mawlong (Sweeper’s Colony) issue.
The five-member delegation includes two Members of Parliament (MPs) – Ravneer Singh Bittu and Jasbir Singh Gill, Cooperation and Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and two MLAs Kuldeep Singh Vaid and Kulbir Singh Zira.
The delegation is being accompanied by the special secretary, planning DS Mangat.
An official source informed that the delegation has also visited the Sweeper’s Colony at Them Iew Mawlong and also held a meeting with the members of the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC).
The visit was based on the recent direction of the Punjab chief minister following reports of threats issued by a banned Khasi militant outfit to the Punjabi settlers living in the state.
