Toll gates on NH-44 opposed

Shillong, May 9: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has opposed the proposed construction of toll gates in West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts.

A memorandum submitted to chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday by HANM-Jaintia Hills Unit sought his intervention so that no toll gates would be constructed in the two districts.

GR Infrastructure has proposed to set up two toll gates on national highway 44 at 7th Mile, West Jaintia Hills District and Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills District.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has engaged the company for widening and repairing the stretch of NH-44 from Jowai to Badarpur.
