Shillong, March 24: Meghalaya Minister for General Administration, HDR Lyngdoh said on Wednesday in the Assembly that accommodation of students in Meghalaya Houses across the country is given top priority.
Replying to a question raised by South Tura legislator, John Leslee K Sangma, Lyngdoh said, accommodation is provided to students in all the Meghalaya Houses in the dormitories.
However, the Meghalaya Houses at Guwahati, Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai and Vellore are primarily meant for use during official tours of Ministers, and officers of Government of India. The Minister said he would examine suggestion of Sangma that traditional food be served in Meghalaya Houses. He assured the House that suggestions that youth from Meghalaya passing out from the hospitality sector would be given preference to run the canteens in the Meghalaya Houses.
