Sohra, Meghalaya Sep, 18: In a significant move to safeguard the state’s tourism image, the Tourism Committee under Hima Sohra has strongly condemned recent disruptions that affected the movement of tourists in the region.

Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting, Committee Secretary Bah Rothel Khongsit said that while they understand the challenges faced by those in the transport sector, such disruptions harm the tourism industry and the state’s reputation as a welcoming destination.

“The livelihood of hundreds of families depends on tourism. We urge all parties to resolve issues through proper channels with the government instead of disturbing the flow of visitors,” Khongsit stated.

The Committee also announced plans to submit a memorandum to the government, requesting improved infrastructure and facilities for tourists visiting Sohra and other key destinations in Meghalaya. Stakeholders expressed confidence that with better coordination and government support, the state can continue to attract both domestic and international travelers.

This move comes at a crucial time, as Meghalaya positions itself as one of India’s most sought-after eco-tourism destinations, known for its waterfalls, caves, and rich cultural heritage.
