SHILLONG, JAN 8: A tourist vehicle, a Maruti Celerio bearing registration number ML-05-AC-2235, met with an accident on Thursday evening at around 6:00 pm along the 11 Mer Road at Mylliem, on the outskirts of Shillong.
According to preliminary information, the vehicle was travelling along the road when it reportedly went out of control and rammed into a roadside tree. The impact caused damage to the vehicle; however, no injuries were reported, much to the relief of authorities and local residents.
At the time of filing this report, the identity of the driver and the exact number of passengers in the vehicle could not be immediately ascertained. Sources said the Celerio was operating as a tourist vehicle and was on a return journey, though its precise route and destination remain unclear.
It is suspected that the vehicle may have been returning from tourist destinations such as Sohra (Cherrapunjee) or Pynursla, but officials said this information has not yet been officially confirmed. The exact cause of the accident—whether due to mechanical failure, overspeeding, or road conditions—is also under investigation.
Following the incident, local residents gathered at the spot and alerted the authorities. Police and traffic personnel later reached the scene to assess the situation, regulate traffic, and initiate necessary inquiries. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
