Shillong, August 21: In yet another case of electrocution, a truck driver died on the spot after the electric wire snapped and fell on the vehicle at a village in East Khasi Hills District.
The incident took place at around 8.30 pm on August 11 when one 11,000 KV electric wire snapped and fell on the truck bearing registration number ML-04-7905 in a place under Shella police station, police said.
The driver identified as Fasting Syngkli (36) also died on the spot due to electrocution, they said.
Recently, the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has directed the chief secretary Y Tsering to set up a high level inquiry into the death of five persons who were electrocuted earlier last month.
Five labourers who were engaged in road construction at Chota Miapara had lost their lives after being electrocuted while five others were injured. The incident took place at around 4.30 pm on July 25.
