Shillong, Aug 31: Two organizations, Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) and CSWO slammed Director of Social Welfare department, H.M. Shangpliang for seeking voluntary retirement scheme (VRS).

A statement issued here on Thursday by TUR leader, Angela Rangad and CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing, said, “TUR and CSWO feel vindicated that Shangpliang (IAS) is seeking VRS to escape punishment for his illegal and corrupt use of his official position to further his political greed.”

The statement said that TUR and CSWO would write to both Central and state government to make an exemplary punishment of Shangpliang.

“Shangpliang needs to be suspended immediately and dismissed from service if need be, and not be granted VRS. His abuse of his official position means that he no longer should enjoy the benefits due to him. Even in his reply to the showcause (accessed through RTI) issued by Meghalaya government, he (Shangpliang) has made a desperate attempts to cover his misdeeds,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, TUR and CSWO urged the government to immediately complete the enquiry and make public its evidence and findings.

A complaint has been lodged against Shangpliang by civil society organisations accusing him of violating the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968 after a video clip was circulated widely, where Shangpliang was seen participating in a Congress meeting held at Lawbah village in Mawsynram constituency on July 8. It was reported that Shangpliang planned to contest from Mawsynram constituency against suspended Congress MLA/MDC, P.N. Syiem, who is the Chief Executive Member of the KHADC.

Shangplang holds various posts in the government including Director of Social Welfare Department, Secretary of General Administration Department (GAD), Secretary to the Chief Adviser to the Government, and Mission Director National Health Mission and Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme.
