Shillong, July 19: The election to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will be held on Friday, and two candidates have filed their nominations for the election on Thursday.
The candidates include UDP member, Equator Nongrang and PDF member, Morningstar Mawsor who both filed their nominations for the election to the post of Deputy Chairman.
Nongrang, who is MDC of Mairang constituency, filed his nomination papers as candidate of the ruling Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) while Mawsor, MDC of Mawshynrut, as the candidate of the opposition People Democratic Alliance (PDA).
During the filing of nomination, Nongrang was accompanied by KHADC chief Hispreaching Son Shylla and Mawsor was accompanied by People’s Democratic Front (PDF) parliamentary party leader, James Ban Basaiawmoit among others.
Speaking to reporters, Shylla expressed confidence that the KHDA candidate will win the post of deputy chairman of the Council.
“We will win the election because we have the support of 17 MDCs,†Shylla said.
