Two promising footballers from Meghalaya — Bonifilia Shullai and Alisha Lyngdoh, who recently represented India in the Indian National Women’s Football Team, received a grand and emotional homecoming celebration upon their return to the state.
The young athletes were greeted with cheers, flower garlands, and traditional shawls as family members, relatives, neighbours, and football enthusiasts gathered at their residence in Khad L… (locality) to honour their achievement. The joyous occasion turned into a festive procession, reflecting the pride and admiration of the local community.

Both players have been training under national-level coaching programmes and were recently part of prestigious international football tournaments, where they showcased outstanding skill, resilience, and sportsmanship. Their contribution not only brought glory to Meghalaya but also highlighted the growing presence of women footballers from the North East on the national stage.
Speaking to local media, family members expressed overwhelming pride, calling it a “historic and inspiring moment” for the youth of the village and the state. Community leaders also commended the duo’s dedication and assured continued support for young girls aspiring to build careers in sports.
