Two persons arrested in West Jaiñtia Hills over drug tafficking

Shillong, July 13: Two persons were arrested from Jowai in West Jaintia Hills, for their involvement in drug trafficking.

Police said that Shah Alam Majumdar (32), vice president Ward Commissioner No 6 and Gulab Wajid alias Tinku were arrested by the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) team based on intelligence inputs.

District police chief, Vivek Syiem said on Friday that both the accused are residents of Natun Ramnagar Part IV Dakshin Silchar, Cachar, and are part of the trafficking chain.

The SP said that the arrest made was based on a follow up action on a case registered earlier where eight persons including the Kingpin S Siangjathang Zou were arrested along with 67,000 Amphetamine tablets from Jowai on June 15.

He said the duo had come to Jowai to help out the eight arrested persons secure bail.

The reason being that the drug supply chain has been disrupted following the arrest of the above eight persons who procure Meta Amphetamines and heroin from Myanmar and supply huge quantities to vendors like them, he said.

The two vendors then distribute the narcotics to middle level suppliers.

Meanwhile, one Wagon R without registration plate and without documents has also been seized from them.

The SP further informed that the two accused will be produced tomorrow before the Special Judge (NDPS) West Jaintia Hills for police remand for further investigation.
