SHILLONG, DEC 4: Tynger Upper Primary School, one of the oldest educational institutions in the Mawsynram Block, successfully concluded its year-long Platinum Jubilee celebration, marking 75 years since its establishment. The jubilee, which began on February 12, 2025, culminated in a grand closing ceremony on Thursday.
Founded in 1950 by Rev. T. RodBorne, the school continues to be managed by the Tynger District of Shella Presbytery.
The closing programme was graced by MLA Olansing Suin, D.P. Wahlang (Retd. IAS & former Chairman, SPV Committee), P.S. Dkhar (CEO, SPV), M.M. Marwein, Rev. S. Syiemsad, pastors, village elders, teachers, students, and community members.
During the occasion, Tbn. B.L.G. Ngap spoke on the school’s rich legacy and its significant role in shaping distinguished personalities over decades. As part of the celebration, a newly constructed school building funded through the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was inaugurated by D.P. Wahlang.
A Jubilee Souvenir was released by M.M. Marwein, while Rev. S. Syiemsad unveiled a memorial tablet commemorating the milestone.
Addressing the gathering, Wahlang announced that the SPV is committed to upgrading Tynger UP School into a Secondary School, a development that will benefit students who currently travel long distances to Mawsynram or Shillong for higher studies. He urged the school management to proactively pursue this initiative.
The event featured vibrant performances—including songs, dances, drills, and action displays—by students. As a symbolic finale, P.S. Dkhar cut the Platinum Jubilee cake, drawing the year-long celebration to a memorable close.
