UDP announces second list of candidates for elections to District Councils

Shillong, Oct 31: The United Democratic Party (UDP) announced its second list of 16 candidates for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).

After a meeting of the state election committee (SEC) here on Wednesday, UDP vice president Allantry F Dkhar told reporters that the second list comprised of sixteen candidates, nine from Jaintia Hills and seven candidates from Khasi Hills.

Another 12 candidates in Khasi Hills and 20 in Jaiñtia Hills are yet to be declared by the UDP.

“We have advised the district units to complete the exercise of selecting candidates for the remaining seats before November 30 in order to give ample time to the candidates to fully campaign,” Dkhar said.

According to him, a sub-committee was also formed to clear the names of candidates as and when the exercise is completed.

The candidates in Jaiñtia Hills approved by the SEC include sitting MDC, Lamdibok Sumer from War East, Kitboklang Nongtdu from Jowai Central, B Iano from Raliang, Eleazer C Dkhar from Mookaiaw, Suklang Shylla from Nongjngi, Emlangki Lamare from Narpuh, Shanbor Lamare from Sutnga-Nongkhlieh, Sanki Shangpung from Bataw-Lakadong, and Laski Rymbai from Tuber.

In Khasi Hills, the candidates include sitting MDC, Neil Antonio War from Malki-Laitumkhrah, Nasar Marweiñ from Langrin, Anbil Lyngdoh from Mawkyrwat, Kris Kharsati from Sohryngkham, Philemon Kharmyndai from Sohiong-Nongspung, Ryngkat Lyndem from Langkyrdem-Laitkroh and Lutphar Dkhar from Nongskhen constituency.
