SHILLONG, DEC 17: United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and Khliehriat legislator Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday expressed strong confidence in his party’s prospects in the upcoming elections, asserting that the UDP is fully prepared to face the challenge.
“We are preparing ourselves and are ready to face the challenge. I firmly believe that UDP will come out with flying colours,” Shylla said, underlining the party’s determination to succeed.
He said the election results would be the true measure of the party’s progress. “The result will tell everything. We are in the process of preparing ourselves, and we are ready to fight,” he added.
Emphasising the need for greater public mandate, Shylla stated that the party’s ability to perform depends on adequate representation. “People often expect UDP to perform, but to do so, we need numbers. We request the people of Meghalaya to give us the numbers so that we can perform, and if we fail, the people can hold us accountable, which we will accept,” he said.
Commenting on political challenges and perceived threats, Shylla noted that such situations are part of the political process. “Once you enter politics, every party has its own strategy. Our responsibility is to prepare ourselves, and in doing so, it may also be seen as a threat to others,” he remarked.
Shylla concluded by expressing hope that the electorate would eventually place its trust in the UDP. “We expect that people will give us the chance—if not today, then tomorrow. One day, people will realise and give UDP the opportunity to lead the government, and when that happens, we will prove ourselves,” he said.
