Shillong, Aug 7: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has decided to gear up preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha and district council elections to be held next year.
Addressing media persons after the CEC meeting of the party here on Tuesday, UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh said that for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the party has constituted the state election committee (SEC) headed by party president, Dr Donkupar Roy.
All MLAs, MDCs, district presidents of the party and other leaders are members of the SEC.
On the elections to district council, Mawthoh informed that as per practice, all MDCs of the party will be candidates of the party.
Mawthoh said that the UDP is also having an understanding with the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) for sharing of seats in the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
“The UDP and HSPDP are part of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), and we have had several meetings on sharing of seats for the upcoming elections to the district council in Khasi Hills,†Mawthoh said.
He however said that the party will see the response with regards to the district council elections to the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
He said that it is not easy to work with other parties as all parties have their own ideologies, but the UDP and HSPDP have done it in the last Assembly elections.
“We hope through such step it can bring unification of regional parties in the state,†he added.
