UDP-HSPDP combine to release joint candidates next month

Shillong, Jul 05: The United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) will declare their joint candidates for the upcoming Assembly election next month.
UDP president, Donkupar Roy while speaking to reporters on Wednesday confirmed that both the parties have almost completed the formalities related to choosing of candidates from the 36 Asssembly seats in Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills.
“By next month, we shall declared the list of our candidates,” he said.
The UDP and HSPDP had forged a pre-poll alliance for the upcoming Assembly election for the 36 Assembly segments in Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills.
The UDP had also forged a pre-poll alliance with the Garo National Council (GNC) for the 24 Assembly seats in Garo Hills.
In the present Assembly, the UDP has eight MLAs, while the HSPDP has four MLA.
Meghalaya is likely to go to fresh poll early next year.
