Shillong, June 12: The United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) decided to continue working together ahead of the upcoming MDC elections to be held next year.
“We will continue with this effort of having an alliance to bring better understanding and working of regional parties of the state,†UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said after a meeting of the two parties held on Tuesday.
The UDP and HSPDP had formed the Regional Democratic Alliance after they forged a pre-poll alliance for the 2018 Assembly elections. But the Alliance won only 8 seats.
Stating that all regional parties in the state have same regional aspirations, he said that the meeting also discussed about ground realities and challenges being faced by regional parties.
On the other hand, the UDP leader said that the Regional Democratic Alliance would like to welcome other regional parties who are having the same aspirations to join its fold.
