Shillong, Jun 8: The United Democratic Party (UDP) Shillong city on Friday sought the intervention of the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills District into the sudden hike in prices of essential commodities as sellers are taking advantage of present situation in the city.
The party alleged that some shop owners took advantage of the ongoing curfew being imposed in the city and increased the price of essential commodities which has affected the consumers.
A delegation of the party would also meet the deputy commissioner on the issue.
The UDP Shillong city also appealed to the public not to spread false news on the issue relating to the sweepers’ colony, as it affected the citizens at large including students.
The delegation would also request the district administration to consider lifting the curfew as it has literally thrown normal life out of gear.
Meanwhile, UDP Shillong city president Alwyn Swer said that the party has decided to extent full support to the high level committee constituted by the MDA government to find permanent solution to the long pending demand of relocating the sweepers’ colony from Them ïew Mawlong.
He also urged the people of the state to give time to the government to deliberate and study this issue through the High Level Committee so that the long pending issue is resolved once and for all.
