Shillong Sept 21: The United Democratic Party (UDP) will announce its first list of candidates for the upcoming elections to the two autonomous district councils in the Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills next month.

The first list of candidates will be declared on October 16 and the final list on or before October 31.

This was informed by UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh after a meeting of the party state election committee on Friday.

He said the party has asked different district units to start gearing up preparations for the elections and submit the names of candidates from their respective areas to the state election committee.

The UDP has constituted search committees to identify probable candidates for the two autonomous district councils.

Mawthoh also informed that the SEC discussed on the report of a sub-committee formed between the UDP and the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP).

“We are yet to decide whether to go for a pre-poll alliance or have just an understanding at the constituency level,” he said while informing that soon the sub-committee will come up with its final report on the matter.

The UDP also decided that its next central executive committee will be held in Garo Hills in the second week of October.
