UDP wants someone from family to succeed Dr Donkupar

Shillong July 31: The United Democratic Party has indicated that someone from the family of Assembly Speaker, late Dr Donkupar Roy Dkhar should produce someone who will take over the place of the seventh time Shella MLA.

While paying tributes to late Dr Donkupar at his residence at Saitsohpen, Sohra, UDP Working President and Water Resources Minister in the MDA government, Metbah Lyngdoh suggested that someone from the family of late Dr Donkupar should step into his shoes and carry forward the UDP leader’s legacy.

Lyngdoh said that Dr Donkupar has been maintaining one principle that ensured trust and never changed his commitment.

“He has been telling this to me and other colleagues that the era of betrayal has gone,” Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh termed the death of Dr Donkupar a big loss to the UDP, the people of Shella constituency and the state.

“However I suggest that someone from the family should step into his shoes and follow his footsteps in carrying forward his legacy that he has left behind,” Lyngdoh said.

Senior most UDP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Bindo M. Lanong also echoed the same view that someone from the family should come forward to shoulder the responsibilities in completing his unfinished tasks.

Chief executive member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Teiñwell Dkhar said that many aspirations that Dr Donkupar and the people of Sohra and Shella area have not been fulfilled, and urged the chief minister, ministers, and the MDA government to fulfill the wish of Dr Donkupar to upgrade the Sohra Civil Sub Division into a district.

Dr Donkupar’s youngest brother, Saiñkupar thanked the people of Shella constituency for electing his elder brother for the seventh consecutive terms since 1988, and assured the people that the family of Dr Donkupar would not leave but be with them always.
