Shillong, Mar 12: A top United Liberation Front of Asom Independent (ULFA-I) militant leader, Drishti Rajkhowa alias Manoj Rabha on Wednesday had a narrow escape in a fierce gunfight with SF-10 commandos in Meghalaya.
The SF-10 commandos had launched an operation on Wednesday following intel inputs about the presence of the ULFA-I most-wanted leader Rajkhowa at remote Bolbokgre village in South Garo Hills district bordering Bangladesh.
The militants opened indiscriminate fire at a police team forcing the commandos to retaliate immediately.
Police said, the intense exchange of fire continued for more than 30 minutes compelling the militants to flee from the area by taking advantage of the dark.
Later, the commandos conducted a massive cordon and search operation in the area and recovered one AK 81 rifle with magazine and ammunition, two smooth bore rifles, three pistols and other incriminating documents from the area.
