Shillong, Apr 12: Congress legislator from Umroi George B Lyngdoh slammed the education department for engaging people who lack proficiency in Khasi language while writing a workbook for Mathematics in Khasi.
Taking part in the general discussion on the Budget during the Assembly here on Thursday, Lyngdoh said after going through, it was found that the grammar and language used in “Mawkyndon ha kaba Khein Jingkhein†or “Steps to doing Mathematics†for class-II was pathetic and is an insult to the Khasi literature.
He said none of the writers have any proficiency in the Khasi language. “If the education department is running in this way then there is no meaning to increase the allocation for the department,†Lyngdoh said.
Expressing concern over the drug menace in the state, the MLA questioned as to why kingpins are nowhere to be found whereas only small drug peddlers are being arrested adding these small time peddlers within no time are back in the streets, whereas kingpins are nowhere to be found.
He also said that rehabilitation is really a concern for many families which are affected emotionally and financially with even children of the age 11 – 12 years are becoming drug addicts even as he urged the government to come up with effective steps and also stringent laws to deal with the problem.
Lyngdoh further suggested the government to set up stabilization centres in the state to help in attending victims of accident cases. He also suggested the need to construct houses for the poor through MNREGS citing that this will be a blessing to many poor families.
