Umsawwar, Nov 22, 2025: The Umsawwar Social and Cultural Sports Club, with support from the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme, successfully organised a comprehensive village-wide cleaning drive on Saturday. The initiative aimed to promote cleanliness, enhance the village environment, and strengthen community responsibility in maintaining public spaces.
The programme witnessed active participation from the Seng Long Kmie, village youth volunteers of the Social and Cultural Sports Club, and other community members. Together, they cleaned roads, footpaths, public areas, and natural spring water sources across the village.
Before the conclusion of the drive, participants gathered at the residence of the Club Treasurer for light refreshments. Addressing the gathering, Club President Mr. Diangmon Lyngshiang emphasised the importance of maintaining a clean, healthy environment and expressed gratitude to all groups for their support and cooperation. He noted that such initiatives not only improve village hygiene but also strengthen unity and environmental consciousness among the youth and the wider community.

Village elder Mr. Petar Nongrum also motivated the volunteers, reminding them that community cleanliness is a shared responsibility and encouraging them to continue such efforts regularly for the collective well-being of Umsawwar.
A vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Dakmenshisha Mynsong, who appreciated the hard work and commitment shown by every participant.
The cleaning drive concluded with a renewed pledge from villagers to sustain similar activities in the future, with a shared vision of making Umsawwar a clean and green village, and a role model for neighbouring communities.
