Shillong, Jan 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has not given his appointment with the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government to discuss the demand to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
On the delay, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said that he had spoken with the Union home minister twice in the last one week but asked him to get back next week after January 26.
“Due to different issues coming up at the Centre and some of the matters that required urgent attention in Delhi, the home minister asked me to get back to him next week after January 26. I am waiting for that,†Sangma said.
The Meghalaya Assembly had passed the resolution urging the centre to implement ILP on December 19, last year following massive protests by anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) groups.
Meanwhile, the chief minister said that he doesn’t think there will be any cases of people seeking citizenship in Meghalaya.
