Urban Affairs Minister launches ‘Smart Shillong Mobile App’

Shillong July 1: As part of the anniversary of the Digital India Day, the “Smart Shillong Mobile App” was launched by Urban Affairs and Information Technology and Communications Minister, Hamletson Dohling on Monday.

The Mobile App was launched at the Committee Room, Secretariat and the programme was organized by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in collaboration with Information Technology Department.

Principal Secretary (Urban Affairs), D.P. Wahlang, Commissioner Secretary (Urban Affairs), M.R. Synrem, Director, Information and Public Relations, BS Sohliya, State Informatics Center Director, Timothy Dkhar and officials from IT Department attended the programme.

The Smart Shillong Mobile App can be downloaded from Play Store. Through this App, people can access various information like tourism related activities, emergency phone numbers, important government contacts, current market price, government orders, tenders, land value calculator, electoral rolls, weather, GST registration, lodging of grievances to government, swachh bharat abhiyan, NEHU and others.

The Minister congratulated the NIC for taking this initiative to develop the Mobile App and stressed that government functionaries should get themselves updated with the advancement of technology, and put in extra effort to take the state forward in the field of information technology.

He hoped that the Mobile App would not only empower the citizens but also bring about transparency and accountability in the functioning of the government.

Dohling hoped that people can benefit from this initiative and invited the public to give suggestions and opinions so that the purpose of developing this app is achieved.

Principal Secretary (Urban Affairs), D.P. Wahlang said that this mobile app is a One Stop Shop for the citizens as it will facilitate them in getting information about different government and non-government departments.

Wahlang also informed that this Mobile App would link to various portals of different departments where people can get information and launch their grievances.
