Violence and bloodshed will lead state to nowhere: PDF

Shillong, Mar 04: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has reiterated its stand on the need for peace and tranquility to prevail throughout the state and said that violence and bloodshed will lead the state to nowhere.

“Violence and bloodshed will lead us nowhere and it is therefore incumbent upon all of us as committed citizens of the state to work towards lasting peace and normalcy so that the pace of development will not be hindered,” PDF acting president Banteidor Lyngdoh said on Wednesday.

Lyngdoh, who is also holding charge as minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, said his party iterates its unwavering stand on the need for peace and tranquility to prevail throughout Meghalaya which has been known to be an island of peace since the many long years of its existence.

He said the party is deeply grieved at the turn of events following the unfortunate violent incident at Ichamati near Shella in East Khasi Hills District on February 28, which led to the loss of a precious life and injuring several others.

While condoling the death of Lurshai Hynniewta who was laid to rest on March 1, the party also extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the departed soul. At the same time, the party also wishes a speedy recovery to all the injured persons at the earliest.

Lyngdoh also emphasize on the need to find a permanent solution to the growing cry of the indigenous people for protection of their rights and identity.

“As a responsible voice of the people and a member of the ruling dispensation, the party once again calls upon the state government to take up the Resolution for implementation of ILP in the state passed by the august Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in right earnest with the Union Government,” he said.

According to him, this will be indicative of our government’s clear intent to endeavor to work for the people and the overall interest of our beloved state both short as well as long term.

Meanwhile, the PDF also extend its best wishes to all the students and youths who will be appearing in the various examinations and job recruitment opportunities in the coming months.

“Remember, this land is your land and its future depends upon your dedicated and selfless service in whatever capacity that you are bestowed with. When our youths shine, Meghalaya will definitely glow even brighter,” Lyngdoh concluded.
