Shillong, December 18: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has warned of resuming its agitational programme if the state government fails to release the report of the expert committee reviewing Meghalaya’s job reservation policy.
In an open statement addressed to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday, VPP president and Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit said six months have passed since the submission of the report, but the government has yet to make it public. He alleged that despite repeated reminders from the party, there has been no clarity on its release.
“The state government does not appear willing to make the report public even after repeated reminders,” Basaiawmoit stated, adding that continued silence raises serious concerns over transparency.
The VPP warned that it would be compelled to resume agitations if the government does not immediately announce and release the report of the expert committee.
The expert committee, headed by retired Justice Mool Chand Garg, was constituted in September 2023 to review Meghalaya’s 1972 reservation policy. Although the report was submitted to the government in June 2025, its release has been delayed, triggering questions over fairness and openness in the policy review process.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma had earlier stated that the report would be released following cabinet approval, but no specific timeline has been announced so far.
