SHILLONG, FEB 3: Voice of the People Party (VPP) Member of Parliament from Shillong, Dr A.J. Syngkon, has urged Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh to intervene in addressing administrative and academic shortcomings at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong.
In a memorandum submitted on Tuesday, Dr Syngkon highlighted several challenges affecting the institute, including the absence of a regular Director, vacant administrative positions, and shortages in faculty strength. He noted that these issues are adversely impacting governance and the delivery of academic programmes.
“I would request the Ministry to kindly examine the matter on priority and consider initiating appropriate corrective measures, including the appointment of a regular Director at NIFT Shillong and the time-bound filling of sanctioned administrative and academic posts,” the MP stated.
Dr Syngkon emphasised that an institution of national importance such as NIFT requires stable and consistent leadership to uphold academic standards and ensure administrative efficiency.
“Strengthening the institutional capacity of NIFT Shillong is essential to ensure that it functions in line with the standards expected of a national institute and fulfils its mandate effectively, particularly in the North Eastern region,” he added.
