Shillong, Nov 3: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has strongly objected to the state government’s decision to terminate the services of adhoc employees appointed against sanctioned posts after 2007.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, VPP president Ardent M Basaiawmoit raised serious concerns over the government’s Office Memorandum issued on 25 September 2025, stating that the directive overlooks both administrative complexities and the rights of long-serving employees.
The VPP argued that many of these adhoc employees, appointed after December 31, 2007, have served continuously for more than a decade and have played an essential role in keeping government operations functional.
“It is highly objectionable that these employees be terminated and asked to reappear in competitive examinations. It was not their fault that they were appointed and continued in service,” Basaiawmoit wrote.
Calls for Regularization
The party demanded that the government regularize the services of these employees, asserting their right to parity with earlier batches who were regularized under similar circumstances.
In the letter, Basaiawmoit stated:
“The party strongly opposes the order of the government to terminate the services of such employees. It would be wrong on the part of the government to suddenly wake up in 2025 when the appointments were made 15 years ago. Your action causes emotional and financial stress to the employees. The employees have the right to claim regularization as their previous batches.”
He urged the government to halt what he described as harassment of these employees and to take corrective measures immediately.
Call to Stop Adhoc Appointments
The VPP also demanded that the government end the practice of making adhoc appointments altogether and hold accountable those officials responsible for continuing such practices.
“The VPP remains committed to good governance, transparency, and accountability,” Basaiawmoit added, reaffirming the party’s stand.
