Wangala festival concludes amid jollity in Garo Hills

Shillong Nov 9: Wangala also known as the Hundred Drums Festival, and harvest festival celebrated by the Garo tribe concluded in Meghalaya on Saturday amid jollity.

Held at Asanang near Tura in West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma and other dignitaries attended the festival on the last day.

The festival is also celebrated by the Garo tribe not only in Meghalaya, but in Assam and Nagaland as well as Mymensingh district in Bangladesh.

Wangala is an agricultural festival, a thanksgiving ceremony to Misi Saljong, also known as the ‘Great Giver’ for having blessed human beings with a rich harvest of the season.
