Shillong, Apr 27: The polling to the Williamnagar Assembly constituency saw a voters’ turnout of 78.82 per cent on Friday.
The election was held 7am to 4pm in 58 polling booths to elect a new MLA to represent the constituency to the tenth Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Counting of votes will take place on May 1
Williamnagar MLA Deborah C. Marak is the Congress candidate who is seeking re-election to retain the seat.
The other candidates in the fray include NCP candidate, Krenilla Marak, NPP candidate, Marcuise Marak, Mahamsing M. Sangma (UDP), Santosh R. Marak (BJP), and four Independents – Sengbath R. Marak, Lahatson N. Marak, Siljong R. Marak, and Jan N. Arengh.
The election to Williamnagar was to be held together with other 59 Assembly constituencies on February 27.
However the poll was adjourned due to the killing of Jonathone N. Sangma who the NCP candidate on February 18.
